Organizational
background
The
World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance relief,
emergency school feeding, humanitarian air and logistics services, food
coordination and emergency rehabilitation projects.
This position is open to qualified Somali
candidates only with good knowledge of the local area. Female
candidates are encouraged to apply.
Major
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Head of
Programme at the Area Office and overall direction of the Head of Area Office,
the Programme Assistant will perform the following duties:

Issue
Food Release Notes (FRNs) accurately in accordance with the approved
distribution plan;
·
Develop
and maintain a FRN tracking sheet and keep it updated;
·
Follow
up with Country Office (CO) programme and Logistics to ensure that all food is
delivered according to the approved FRNs;
·
Undertake
field visits to project sites periodically to conduct needs assessments, market survey, monitor/verify food
distribution process, adherence of WFP targeting criteria, entitlements and Standard
Operating Procedures(SOP) compliance;
·
Monitor
pre-screening on the project site with implementing partners and advice as
required to members and community about the entitlement and beneficiary
selection criteria.
·
Assist
and conduct regular meetings with refugees/internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
leaders and cooperating partners on the
project modality, commodity pipeline, distribution arrangements, food
entitlements and other relevant issues;
·
Assist
in conducting training of field staff and cooperating partners on commodity
management;
·
Assist
in the implementations of plan of action, review achievements and constraints
and provide feedback accordingly;
·
Assist the WFP officers and implementing partners in
encouraging women‘s access to economic skills development and sensitizing
public opinions on gender issues and gender focused activities;
·
Liaise
with other units to resolve and clarify issues or obtain additional
information;
·
Prepare
periodic reports, statistical information and tables;
·
Maintain
accurate records and files in relation to the field of work;
·
Perform
other related duties as required.
Minimum
Qualifications
Education:
|
Secondary school education,
preferably supplemented by courses in a field related to WFP programmatic
activities.
|
Experience:
|
At least four years of progressively
responsible support or secretarial work experience including at least two
years in the field of accounting, transport, insurance, statistics,
operations or other related field. At least one year at G4 level or
equivalent
|
Language:
|
Fluency
in both written and spoken English and Somali language is a requirement.
|
Knowledge:
|
Experience utilizing computers including word processing,
spreadsheet and other software packages.
